Elementary school locked down after teen makes hand gesture at principal
Tue Nov 5, 2013
I'm thinking of assigning this article to my students as a reading exercise. The title primes readers to be prepared for a certain type of article -- hysterical principal overreacting to a kid messing around. A lot of people seem to be responding to that impression, without bothering to read the act …
Banned for life: Why gay men still can't donate blood
Sun Jul 14, 2013
Hey, I can't donate blood either, so I guess I'm in good company. My hideous crime? I spent over 8 months in England back in 1983. Seriously, that's one of the questions. Six months in England bans you for life. It's no wonder we have blood shortages in this country.
Too much #hashtag! Time to wise up about the pound sign
Sat Jun 22, 2013
I've never been on Twitter, so I'm pretty fuzzy on what the # and the @ are supposed to actually mean or be used for. I read this article hoping for enlightenment, but I still don't get it.
College Republicans latest to issue warnings for party's future
Mon Jun 3, 2013
"For many Americans under 30, in other words, the Grand Old Party conjures up a caricature mashup of The Simpsons’ Mr. Burns, Eugene Levy’s dorky dad character in “American Pie” and a drawling George Wallace." Reporter fail. To 30-year-olds, George Wallace was someone who got …
First 3-D-printed gun fired, but its digital blueprints make bigger bang

In reply to: Lee-1305582 #103 They should be afraid -- of being defeated in the next election. Not being shot. First off, 99.9% of the American public would never think of shooting a politician who did something they didn't like. So what you're proposing is to put the .1% craziest people in charge …
Millions really do quit Facebook - and never return

Good to see there are others here who have resisted the Borg collective. So how come more and more NBCNews/Today discussions seem to be ONLY accessible through Facebook?
Going to Mars in 2018: Concept is so crazy (and simple) it just might work
Wed Feb 27, 2013
"Best bet, they need to soon select several pairs, build an environment the size of the capsule, pack, it with food, and seal them in for the same amount of time it would take to make the trip to Mars and back." You mean, like, Biosphere 2? Which the two leading applicants mentioned in the article h …
Study: 3-D movies leave many feeling sick
Mon Feb 25, 2013
Another question I'd have is whether or not people can even see the 3D effects. My wife can't tell any difference between 2D and 3D films -- it just doesn't work for her.
Prosecutor: 'Blade Runner' Pistorius committed 'premeditated' murder of girlfriend
Fri Feb 15, 2013
JUST ONCE, I would like to see a case like this happen, and see commenters on the internet withhold delivering their verdict until some actual facts are made public. "Trial by Media..." it's a scourge!
Chubby Checker sues HP over penis size app

Somebody ought to have looked up the Streisand Effect on wikipedia before filing this suit.
